Akintayo wins maiden Sabi Chef street food cooking competition
Olaoluwa Akintayo has won the 2023 Sabi Chef street food cooking competition during the street food festival held at the Muri Okunola Park, Victoria Island, Lagos.
In a keenly contested final, Akintayo beat nine others to scoop the ₦1.5 million prize money.
The 2nd position went to Tosin James who won a prize money of N1 million. While the 3rd position was a tie between Adelabu Micheal and Adeniyi David. Both shared the N500,000 on offer.
The competition which kicked off in November saw over 1,000 entries received by the organisers. 10 finalists were picked from the entries, thus preparing the ground for a fitting grand event.
The winner made his signature street noodles to beat other street food chefs to emerge.
According to the celebrity chef and judge at the event, Joy Etor (@joyetor), Akintayo was able to persuade her and her colleague, Chef Peter Olaniyi (@iam_polan) with his taste, street credibility, presentation and style.
Sabi Chef, organised by Newspread.ng – an online newspaper is geared towards encouraging culinary tourism, advocacy for hygiene and rewarding street food vendors who use their skills to provide affordable meals for all social classes around the country.
At the event, there were many side attractions including games, dances and singing.
There were also varieties of local staples and delicacies on display by vendors at the venue.
Guests were treated to tasting sessions, free Nigerian delicacies and drinks.
